It is a criminal offence for an individual to practice a statutorily regulated profession without being listed on the appropriate register. There are many regulatory bodies in orthodox medicine including:
Each of these regulatory bodies has an on-line facility to check the validity of individuals claiming profession competence.
The register for most other statutorily regulated professions in the health sector is administered by the Health Professions Council (HPC).
Professions regulated by HPC include:
Speech and Language Therapists
Herbal Medicine Practitioners are to be regulated by HPC in 2012
How to check a register entry for a practitioner in a statutorily regulated health profession?
In a similar manner to GRCCT regulated practitioners each HPC regulated practitioner is issued a register number (sometimes referred to as a PIN number). The practitioner can be validated using this number or surname on the HPC website.
Please see the links page of the GRCCT website for details of UK and worldwide regulatory bodies.
